Per Doug Winter, this is by far the most available gold coin of any denomination from the Dahlonega mint. High AU grade 1849-D dollars aren’t rare, but they are considered scarce. This specimen is free of wear but has a hint of rub on obverse high spots; thus the 58+ grade. Plentiful luster on both sides and the obverse especially has nice color in the fields. There are no APRs for AU58+ 1849-D gold dollars from either service with this being the sole grading event. Neat opportunity to own a Type One gold dollar for either a type collector or a Dahlonega type set.
